About

hacking

By hacking I mean do not mean black-hat cracking, and I don’t even mean cracking. I mean hacking in the sense of creatively and intelligently tinkering and fixing a machine, situation, person, or the relationship between all three, without limiting yourself to how things are supposed to be done.

the user

Why does the user need to be hacked? Do you really need to ask? Because users malfunction. Because everyone is a user: you, your supervisors, and your—er—users. And every problem, from long-range planning to seat-of-your-pants troubleshooting, can and must be defined in terms of the users who are part of the equation. There is no computer problem that exists without users.

the path

How can you hack the user, dodge the psychological pitfalls of providing technical support and ultimately survive the day? This website is one of many ways to contemplate these problems and raise your consciousness (and mine). I don’t have all the answers, but I hope to put many of us on the path toward them.
